75+ years of combined experience in wound management

Wounds R Us was founded in 2016 by Jan Rice, Kate Maguire and Melinda Brooks. A trio of experienced, knowledgable wound care clinicians with more than 75 years combined experience in community, aged care and acute nursing. 

Wound management is a complex and specialised area of nursing. A thorough assessment of a person with a wound is required before deciding on a wound management plan. 

Wounds R Us provide educational webinars, online courses and seminars on various clinical aspects relating to wound management in a variety of settings. 

Wounds R Us aim to expand the knowledge of wound care practices among clinicians to improve the outcomes of people with wounds.

Melinda Brooks

Wound Consultant

Jan trained at The Alfred hospital and progressed through various training programs to eventually study Plastic Surgery Nursing. This led her into wound management in a formal sense in 1993 when she joined Wound Foundation of Australia.

 

Since then Jan has been training in wound management for Monash University, La Trobe University and Training Beyond 2000.

 

She has authored many short papers on wound management and co-authored book chapters and a training manual in plastic surgical nursing.

 

Jan has worked on many advisory boards and been a member of many committees focused on wound care.

 

She holds a Masters in Wound Care, and now runs her own consultancy business- Jan Rice WoundCareServices Pty Ltd- which sees her consulting in aged care, acute private surgical hospitals and private homes and of recent times General Practices.

  

Over 30 years of specific wound training, Jan has been an invited speaker at many State, National and International conferences and wound meetings.

Kate has been Wound Nurse Consultant for the past 25 years.

 

After gaining Certificate in Advanced Wound Management ( RMIT/Wound Foundation) she went on to develop a broad range of experience in wound management including management of complex acute and chronic wounds, pressure injury prevention, management of leg ulceration and the Diabetic Foot.

 

Kates passion is healing wounds and educating nurses .

 

She was instrumental in establishing the Knox Hospital Wound Clinic in 1995, then in 2014 her business Woundadvisor Pty Ltd providing consultation and education to Aged Care sector. Kate also works closely with TAC & NDIS clients.

 

Professional Affiliations: Wounds Australia, ANMF, RCN.

Melinda has worked in wound management for more than 25 years in a variety of settings from the Victorian Adult Burns Unit, to community nursing and aged care.

Melinda began private practice in 2006 with the establishment of Wound Wise Consulting & Education. 

Melinda has worked in research and lecturing in wound care at both Monash and Latrobe Universities and continues to do this on a casual basis.

Melinda was endorsed as Nurse Practitioner in wound management, following her endorsement in 2013, the first person in her specialty for the Melbourne metropolitan area.

 

Melinda is an endorsed Advanced Wound Clinician as certified by Wounds Australia.

Melinda has presented at many state and national conferences and thrives on teaching others about the importance of holistic wound management.

 

Melinda has been a past member of the Wounds Australia Education Pillar and committee member of the Wounds Australia national conference 2018.

Other affiliations include; ANMF, ACN & ACNP.
